How is FlatWire attached to the wall?

FlatWire products attach to the wall with FlatWire Ready® Spray Adhesive, which is sprayed to the wall before the wire is attached. The adhesive is tacky enough to provide 5 minutes of readjustment time if necessary. A professional installation would include standard wall or joint compounds and techniques to blend the minor thickness differential to the wall.

Can I use anything to stick the FlatWire onto my wall?
No. Our warrenty provides only for installation with FlatWire spray adhesive.

Can you install FlatWire products over a textured surface?

Yes. The first step is to use a special tool to clear a path through the textured surface. Next, attach the wire along the path using our FlatWire Ready® Spray Adhesive. Finally purchase a textured ceiling repair kit and apply to cover the wire's path.

Is professional installation required for FlatWire products?

A definite "No." Both contractors and do-it-yourselfers can install the FlatWire Ready wiring and interconnect devices with basic redecorating techniques and a minimal understanding of wiring.

Does FlatWire require any drilling or in-wall installation?

No. FlatWire products are installed directly on the surface of walls and ceilings using adhesives; no drilling or in-wall installation is necessary.

Can I put FlatWire over chair rail, door molding, or trim?

Yes. The FlatWire will either slide under the chair rail or adhere to the top curves of the trim. There is no need to pull the trim up, or route a path for the wire. Use a thin palette knife to slide FlatWire under the trim if desired, or spray adhesive to the wire directly and press gently to follow the trim form.

My walls and floor are concrete/cement; can I use FlatWire?

Yes.FlatWire works well on solid construction walls and ceilings. We do not recommend installing FlatWire directly on concrete floors without a moisture barrier. Try a strip of duct or other waterproof tape on the floor, and lay the FlatWire on top.

What should I use to clean up adhesive overspray?

If you plan to conceal the FlatWire with mesh tape and joint compound, then no clean up is necessary. You might try mineral spirits on any overspray when concealing with paint only. Do remember to spray the adhesive ( whenonly painting the wire) against a backdrop of paper or cardboard.

Where should I place FlatWire when installing a surround sound system?

Component placement depends on the side and arrangement of your space, but we always suggest placing FlatWire as close to an exisitng sight line as possible. For example, when running the speaker wire, plan to place horizontal wire runs either close to the floor or ceiling trim. Try to place vertical runs close to other vertical room elements, such as room corners, doorways or windows. Always measure twice and cut once!
